Nala is rising DJ in electronic dance music who resides in Los Angeles. Known for her unique style of house music, she also crosses into breaks, indie dance, and electro. Nala’s journey into EDM started as a raver in her teenage years before becoming a DJ.
The influenced of female riot grrrl style vocals is what makes Nala’s DJ style infectious. Her sound is described as merging punk rock aesthetics and dance music.
Breaking out
As an energetic performer playing underground nightclubs and festivals, Nala started attracting attention on the Miami music scene. It’s no surprise the former Miami native became one of Miami’s top female DJs.
Infectious DJ Style
Claude VonStroke, the Dirtybird records founder, took an interest in Nala’s talent and style back in 2020. Under the mentorship of Claude, Nala began to refine her sound and the way she played her sets. With live events paused due to the pandemic, Nola had more time for performing live streams and experimenting with new music which helped contribute to her current style of play.
The guidance of Claude VonStroke has helped propel visibility within the underground dance music, festival, and club circuit. You’ll find Nala playing shows in big dance music cities Miami, New York City, and Los Angeles and some of the top EDM festivals like EDC Vegas.
Mi Domina
Nala currently resides in the vibrant city of LA, and has become part of the dance music scene in the City of Angels. In 2022 Nala launched Mi Domina, a “femme-dominated” music record label. Having her own label gives Nala her own space and the ability to control the process of creating and releasing music that fits her style and image.
Nola also looks to support other artists that exhibit the ethos of Mi Domina. She wants to support musicians that are creative and willing to push the boundaries of music, but also those with good character that want to support the music community.
Get Familiar EP
The debut on Mi Domina was the Get Familiar EP. The release was described as an industrial warehouse feel combined with hypnotic vocals. The EP recording also included fellow Dirtybird artist E.R.N.E.S.T.O. The most recent release is the single Big Bad Ego.
