NFTs and Art
The Ultraviolet NFT allows owners to redeem the token for exclusive access to items such as physical vinyl records, unreleased music, and experiences with 3LAU. The NFT collection gives 3LAU’s biggest fans an even greater connection with the artist.
Justin Blau, the famous house music DJ known as 3LAU (pronounced Blau) succeeded in creating one of the most successful NFT (non fungible token) projects to date. The project, the Ultraviolet Collection, was a celebration of 3LAUS’s Ultraviolet Album and consisted of 33 Vinyl NFTs.
Exclusive Access
Proceeds from the Ultraviolet NFT auction was estimated to be $11 to $13 million, giving musicians and artists a new channel to generate revenue. 3LAU’s NFT sale consisted of four reward tiers–Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Loyalty. The single highest bidder was awarded the ‘Platinum’ tier, giving the NFT holder several exclusive perks–collaboration with 3LAU on a new track and a limited edition physical vinyl record were some of the top. Giving a fan the opportunity to create a song with their favorite musician is similar to a reward offered by Steve Aoki with his Aok1verse NFT community.
The second and third reward tiers for the Ultraviolet NFT also received limited edition physical vinyl and access to exclusive content, but only received a limited number of tracks from the Ultraviolet album as a NFT. The Platinum winner received all 11 tracks. Losing bidders were given Loyalty NFTs, a basic NFT without the perks offered in the top three tiers.
Auction
Artists such as deadmau5 have typically sold new NFTs on larger third party marketplace sites like Nifty Gateway and SuperRare. 3LAU took a different approach by selling the NFT Ultraviolet album on his own website. His team created a custom site created with blockchain technology specifically for NFTs. This gave 3LAU’s team complete control of the digital art auction.
Music Industry and NFTs
Streaming music on services like Spotify and Apple Music were one of the big disruptions to the music industry over the past 20 years. Blockchain technology and NFTs are the next wave of technology for artists and musicians. NFTs give DJs much more, if not complete control of their music. Artists can sell NFTs as concert tickets, concert footage, release new music, and receive money from the sales immediately. Web3 and NFTs are giving artists a whole new future and world to interact directly with their community of fans.
Digital Art
Keep watching the music NFT and DJ NFT space as artists and DJs become more involved in Web3 and begin to sell NFTs. Exclusive events, concerts, and songs are just the beginning. There’s already a large market and audience for NFTs and there’s no doubt the success of DJs like 3LAU will continue to thrive.
